The COVID-19 crisis exacerbated gender inequalities, with disproportionate numbers of women and female care givers being made to lose their jobs permanently or have to stop work temporarily due to commitments to their dependencies.

  • Studies show that mums reinvest up to 90 percent of their income back into their families and communities, compared to only 40 percent for men.
  • Mothers of children 12 years old and younger lost nearly 2.2 million jobs between February and August, a 12% drop. In comparison, Fathers of small children saw a 4% drop of about 870,000 jobs.
  • If female entrepreneurs received as much support as male entrepreneurs, the global economy could experience up to a $5 trillion boost.
